Play Ball!

Edmundo Sosa, of the Philadelphia Phillies, tracks down a sofly-hit line drive off the bat of Nathaniel Lowe, of the Washington Nationals).

Infield Line Drive

Maybe it’s a ball hit with scalding fury of the fiery Sun. Maybe it’s a little bloop that just sort of bobs in the air for a moment. Either way, if it’s hit within that magic launch angle of between 10-25°, it’s considered a line drive— and since we’re talking about a line drive that stays in the infield, that means it’s a line drive that is headed for a fielder. Chances are extremely high that that fielder is going to catch the ball for an out— but “extremely high” does not equal “100%”.
